Thanks, everybody, for your scarf suggestions. They were all great and I'll be keeping them in mind for future projects.
However, I ended up flipping through my binder of patterns and found one that suited the look and speed I wanted.
From the Fall 2007 Interweave Knits--Elfin Scarf by Cathy Carron.
Since I'm on a deadline for March 17th, I've been knitting every free moment I have. Usually I do chores and take breaks for knitting. Now I'm knitting and taking a break for chores.
Chores? Who am I kidding? Chores are on the back burner this week.
The Erin go Knittin' Scarf aka the Marchin' in the Paddy's Day Parade Must Finish ASAP Scarf so far:

Wow, Mary! You have really made lots of progress and the color is PERFECT for St. Patrick's Day (or any other time for that matter). Ignore the chores. They'll wait.
Knit on!
Wow, that is really pretty!!! I don't even see how chores should compete with the need to knit!
How's it going Mary? Are you close to done? You've got one more day!!!
