We will soon have one more vintage item in the apartment. Our dining room set is from the 30s. We have lamps owned by my parents. We use old silver, pressed aluminum ware and Depression glass. And on October 19, my computer will be considered vintage!
No, that isn't a photo of woven cloth. It's what's been happening to my computer screen.
The Apple tech actually used the word "vintage." He said that we should think of computers' ages in terms of dog years. On 10/19, my computer will officially become obsolete. It's four years old. Decision time. New computer? Or get this one fixed and wait for the next bad thing to happen?
I'm writing this entry very, very quickly. The screen starts out fine and lines appear. It will get worse--so, I'm trying to get this in before it gets too wonky!

hmmm... I do believe that was a term I used the other day when we were discussing same Mac ;o)
love the markers - got some from my favorite etsy shop, hide & sheep - they make the kinds of markers that don't dangle - aptly named "needle huggers" ...
hope you can read this comment!
I'm in the same boat - it happened to hubsters laptop (my old one) and now we are sharing this laptop - so I have to decide to spend the money to get a new one and give him this one. We even tried the shimming of the motherboard etc. and none of it worked long - And I did the same thought process - if I pay to get it fixed how soon before something else goes wrong. Let me know what you decide on....maybe it will help me make the decision too. :D
If I leave you a comment, will you even be able to see it? lol
I hope you come up with a solution soon...I hope not to have any more computer problems for a good long while!
Which leads to the existential question: if a comment is left of a blog that can't be read, does the comment really exist?
Good luck getting a new machine!
I say to wait until Leopard comes out. Cause as soon as you get a new one, you know you're just going to have to upgrade the OS. My PowerbookG4 is about 3 years old. Personally, I'm waiting until early next year to get a new MacBook.
make sure you keep up with the tech news so you know when they're coming out with a new product. That way you'll get more of a run out of your machine.
I vote for you getting it fixed. My "Hal" is 8 years old and still going strong. True, we have a newer and faster laptop that does the bulk of the downloads/uploads, but "Hal" is still used as a back-up. He's doing fine and hasn't killed anybody yet. [smile]
