Old Friends

The cameras at Yankee Stadium caught these two fans last night:

Recognize them?

Yep, Simon & Garfunkel. I can't help but think of this beautiful, brilliant song.

And I wonder, when they sang these words, if they had a glimpse of their future--
"Can you imagine us years from today,
Sharing a parkbench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy"

In 2011, both will be turning 70.

When did my world get so old?

"When did my world get so old?"

Understand. Would love for my band
to perform "When I'm Sixty-four", except all but three of us are too old! Guess we could rewrite it to say "When I'm Eighty-four."

Lovely post. Thanks.

Wonderful song. Imagine having the talent to combine poetry and music. Old friends make the journey so much better.

I was watching last night. When they were showing them, I kept saying to my husband "That's Simon & Garfunkel. They've gotten so old." He is younger than me, so was a couple of years too late for their big years - so he didn't quite get it. But how cool was that to see them still hanging out!

It is not possible. It can't be.

Can it?

Pretty sure I watched their Central Park concert every time it was on HBO. But 70 next year? Doesn't seem possible.

I didn't think they could be 70 in 2011...but then I didn't think I could be 60 in 2012.

What a lovely package you've offered today: a blast from the past and a peek into the future...

They might look old, but they still look mighty fine to me!

Thanks so much for sharing the photo and video. Those seats look much more comfy than a park bench to me.

Oh, this is so wonderful.
I love Simon & Garfunkel and they're Yankee fans.
I'm with Jan...they look mighty fine to me...and I didn't think I'd be 60 in 2010 either :)

Where does the time go?

I've always loved that song and today it brought tears to my eyes. Life is so fleeting.

Bookends was one of my favorite albums ever.
