Summer Knitting

During the summer, when my mind turns to ricotta cheese, I like to work on something easy-peasy when we go away. When I was knitting the lacy baktus, I kept thinking that I'd like to make a striped baktus during this summer.

Yesterday, I found the perfect yarn for it:

Road to China in the colors Grey Pearl and Light Hematite Baby alpaca, cashmere, camel and silk. Can you imagine the lusciousness of this yarn?!

The original plan was to cast on when we're away in the mountains in August. Summer vacation project. But then I thought that I should start on the 4th of July. However the Summer Solstice is on June 21st--that will the date for casting on. But that's the apex of summer. Summer really begins on Memorial Day. And if the striped baktus is going to be a summer project, I should start it then.

But I do like something big needle/easy to work on when we travel and we'll be on the road in mid-April, I'll get a jump-start on summer knitting by beginning then. Then I thought about the new life symbolism of Easter. New life = starting new knitting project? However, don't we switch to Daylight Saving Time on March 14th? And since that's the time we observe in the summer--perhaps a summer knitting project should be cast on then.

But isn't my imagination larger than my physical state? Can't it be summer in the middle of a snowstorm if I think of the warm sunny days? Right now it's 39 degrees out. But I feel like it's 79.

Come on....you can think of a reason to cast on March 6th! Go for it!

Your orange Baktus is really pretty. I always try to plan ahead by the seasons...but usually fail. I start, don't finish, tuck it away - and then a year later - it is finished by the intended season. This summer I'm going to knit hats and balaclavas for a number of people for Christmas. I figure even though they will be wool, they will be small. Right now I'd love to knit a vest for spring, but I have two projects going and hate to start a third....

The yarn looks lovely!

Timing is everything. : )
But that yarn looks awfully hard to resist.

I am thinking about summer projects, too. Because our summer is nearly here. And Baktus is waiting on me. I've ripped mine out two times already because I lost my place. (Couldn't possibly be related to the fact that I was at the beach on 'girls weekend' and talking the whole time, could it?) Someone on Ravelry suggested stripes make it much easier to keep up with the rows. Hoping the third time's the charm!

I think you need to start soon! Just cast on and go for it!

Go for it! There's got to be an old Irish tradition that says it's good luck to cast on a new project ten days before St. Patty's Day. I do believe I've read it somewhere..... :)

I predict you'll be casting on, oh, any minute now!

You sound like me. I just started a very simple tank top for summer/vacation knitting. Lots and lots of stockinette stitch. :)

Love, love, love the yarn! Whenever you decide to knit it, it will be wonderful.

I wish I could feel that yarn. It does sound luscious. It would be hard to wait to cast on a project using it.

There must be something in the air -- I've also been thinking of summer knitting projects.

My thoughts ... get started on Bakus now. It sounds like it is really calling to you.
