Gimme

Shelter!

OH MY GOSH!

I'm weak--I'm the first to admit it. I tried to resist this yarn. I really did. But all it took was a gentle nudge. You know who I'm talking to, Jane.

What will this tweedy, yummy deliciousness be? That was an easy decision--Brooklyn Tweed's Wayfarer Scarf. I just love the look of the lines of this scarf. For somebody who barely passed NYS's geometry Regents Exam, it amazes me how my eye is drawn to knits that incorporate strong linear designs. And Mrs. Lenz, my geometry teacher, would be even more stunned since, in high school, I couldn't even figure out what a line was.

Yarn specifics: The color is almanac. I bought it at Loop--but the yarn can also be bought on Jared Flood's / Brooklyn Tweed's website.

I think I'll wind a skein of the yarn tonight and try it out during the game tonight.

Signs of Change

The season (and temperatures) have changed. Some signs of:

Empty outdoor cafes on these chilly days

Pumpkins and gourds for sale

Christmas and Hanukkah displays in stores

No more pale, summery manicures and a handknit scarf

And, best of all, these tee-shirts:

A closer look--

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Also watch out for pointy sticks and yarn.

Hubster and I finally made it to a Yankee game the other night.

Agile players,

happy fans,

a monument for George Steinbrenner unveiled and a terrific game made it a good late-summer night.

Spring in the Air

We're expecting snow over the next two days--but I plan to keep looking at this photo. I took it yesterday from a bus window and it's not great. If you click on it, the photo will become larger and you'll see that the sign says, "40 days until Opening Day."

The spring equinox may be on March 20th. But, for me, Spring truly begins on Opening Day--April 4th--now 39 days away!

Why the Yankees Won

Some people say that the Yankees won the World Series because of their pitching, batting, fielding.

BUT I know the real reason why. The Lacy Baktus draped on the TV when Derek was at bat did it.

Pre-birthday

Today's birthday festivities began yesterday with

A Broadway show AND a Yankee game!

I keep humming the music from that wonderful show. It was a lot of fun!

The Yankees gave me the best birthday gift ever! They not only beat the Boston Red Sox--it was a four-game sweep!

And the hubster arranged this terrific birthday surprise!

I can't wait to see what today brings!

Meanwhile I wish my Birthday Twin a happy one!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

Twice this week, I went to the Yankee's Opening Day game.

The subway stop:

Walked past the new Yankee Stadium still under construction:

Got myself settled in on Monday afternoon. Ate a hot dog:

But, Freddy Sez it best:

We waited through a rain delay. I worked a bit on a sock (and forgot to take a photo!)

Game called on account of rain.

Tuesday night. Another day, another hot dog:

The rain held off and finally it was Opening Day!

Is there no prettier sight than the Yankees taking the field?

Kirsten, this one's for you!

Half n' Half

Was it only a month ago that I was sitting in a knitting abyss and making lofty goals for March?

I must have been thinking with only half a brain when I thought I would finish the North Sea Shawl by April 1. I had forgotten that life often has other plans for us.

March was a month with lots of rollercoaster moments and very little knitting.

The North Sea Shawl is now half done:

And, no promises, but it might be finished half-way through April. Life, you hear me?

Today, I'm doing the Happy Dance because it's the NY Yankee Opening Day and the hubster and I will be there!

And I don't care that'll it be cold and rainy this afternoon for the first pitch. I was born a Yankee fan and it's Yankee Opening Day! No half-love there!
