Seen in NYC

In the window of a vintage store--

a repurposed Aran knit sweater. Not my style--especially the gauzy frou-frou on the front (hard to see in the photo--click to enlarge) --but somebody had a vision that this would work as a purse. The price? $100.

Seen in NYC

I was in the garden section of Home Depot yesterday and I spotted the following needlecrafter. She graciously allowed me to take her photo and we chatted.

She told me that she knit her sweater from leftover scraps and that she didn't use a pattern. If you click on and enlarge the photo, you'll see there's cables and ribs. I just love the Spring colors! And, remembering Brandon Mably's class, I noted how that yellow stripe makes the other colors pop.

Since yesterday was a chilly, windy day, the needlecrafter had thrown a shawl over her head and shoulders. This was crocheted in the pineapple pattern. She opened it and showed me how large it was and, when asked, she again told me that no pattern was followed.

What a talented lady!

The Dog Days of Winter

Spotted while walking the streets of NYC

First I saw--and recognized-- the stylin' hand-knit sweater. Then I saw the sweet face and the ginormous ears. (I'm talking about the dog--not the owner. Though the owner does have a sweet face--never seen her ears, though.)

Anybody else recognize this Canine Supermodel?

Yep, it's Olive!

Shake Shack Scarf

Seen through the window of Shake Shack today:

Probably a machine knit--but I'm not sure. However it does look long and loopy and cozy to wear on this windy, chilly day. And since the high temperature tomorrow will be 27 degrees, I'm sure plenty of scarves and mittens will be making appearances all over the city this weekend.

Hugs and Kisses Scarf

This scarf was being worn by a woman I took a class with this past semester. She said her daughter made the scarf. It wasn't until I looked at the photo that I noticed the cable is a hugs and kisses cable.

AWWWWWW. . . . how sweet!

An update on a past post. I'm still stalking that yellow scarf! The same woman had the Pilates appointment following mine on Monday --but she wasn't wearing the scarf.

Knits on the Pier

Two scarves seen on Pier 86 in NYC during the commissioning of the USS New York on Saturday: (More about that tomorrow.)

This looked to be a very well-loved handknit, basketweave stitch scarf: (Click photos to get a better view.)

And a fun, colorful scarf. Perhaps somebody's first knit project?

Hat on the Bus

It isn't that cold in NYC that people need to be wearing wooly knits yet. But I'm beginning to see a scarf here and hat there.

Saw this interesting hat being worn by a woman on a bus today. The yarn looked to be cotton--light enough for temperatures in the mid-50s and heavy enough for a day with a chill to it.
